Elections for FSMTA Executive Commmitte

Every two years, a very important part of the FSMTA and its future comes about. The FSMTA will hold elections for the 5 Executive Committee positions. The Elections Committee is now taking nominations for the positions for the positions of State President, State First Vice-President, State Second Vice-President, State Secretary, and State Treasurer.

The Executive Committee conducts, manages, and administers the ongoing business of the FSMTA during the intervals between the Executive Board meetings. The committee also acts as the Executive Finance Committee and manages all financial aspects of the FSMTA.

Below is some basic information about all the positions and what the duties are. Exact qualifications and duties can be found in the FSMTA Bylaws and Policies and Procedures. If you would like to help make your association even better and guide it as it becomes the best Massage Therapy Association in the country, please complete the nomination form and submit your name and objectives for your term in office.  This is a volunteer organization and we are only as good as those who volunteer. So, if you can, please volunteer.

If you would like to volunteer and nominate yourself for one of the five Executive Committee positions available, please complete the application and return it to the FSMTA Central Office by December 31, 2009.  Any nomination forms that are received after the deadline or are incomplete will be discounted for the elections, so make sure that you have filled out the form completely and attached all the information requested.  And watch that deadline!

General Information About All Executive Committee Positions
1) All candidates must be an LMT member in good standing for two consecutive years;
2) All candidates must prove Florida residency;
3) All candidates must have held a position on the Executive Board or a Chapter Office for two (2) years;
4) All candidates must submit a completed Nomination Application to the Nominating Committee at the specified return address on the application by the specified deadline;
5) All candidates must notify the Nominating Committee of any potential conflicts of interest when submitting the Nomination Application. The Nominating Committee will determine
if the conflict of interest is a reason for disqualification of the applicant;
6) All candidates shall be installed and take the Oath of Office at the close of the Annual Business Meeting, held at the FSMTA 2010 Annual Convention.  The two year term of office will commence beginning the first day after the close of the convention; and
7) All candidates must submit a short biography and campaign message of 250 words or less along with their nomination form. This biography and campaign message will appear in
the election issue of the Massage Message magazine.

General Information About the State President Position:
1) The State President is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of the FSMTA.
2) The position supervises all business of the FSMTA, and sees that all business and votes of the FSMTA are carried out.
3) Appoints all committee chairs and committee members, except for the Financial Review Committee, the Elections Committee and the Election sub-committees.
4) Represent the FSMTA policy in answering communications and issuing publicity releases.
5) Publicly represent the FSMTA; make public statements in the name of or on behalf of the FSMTA.
6) Submit quarterly reports to the Board, and annual reports at the FSMTA Annual Business Meeting.

General Information About the State First Vice-President Position:
1) In the absence of the State President or if the State President steps down, the position presides as President.
2) Assists the President with all business affairs of the FSMTA.
3) Acts as representative for the President upon request.
4) At an Executive Board meeting, will act as President Pro Tem in the absence of the President.
5) Submit quarterly reports to the Board, and annual reports at the FSMTA Annual Business Meeting.

General Information About the State Second Vice-President Position:
1) Succeeds to the State First Vice President position should the First Vice-President either step down or take on the position of State President.
2) Assists the President with all business affairs of the FSMTA.
3) Acts as representative for the President upon request.
4) At an Executive Board meeting, will act as President Pro Tem in the absence of the President and First Vice-President.
5) Submit quarterly reports to the Board, and annual reports at the FSMTA Annual Business Meeting.

General Information About the State Secretary Position:
1) Attend all Executive Board and other appropriate meetings.
2) Record or supervise the recording of votes and minutes of all meetings.
3) Transmit or supervise the transmittal of all minutes to the Executive Board for review prior to the next meeting.
4) Direct the furnishing to committees with documents necessary for the performance of duties.
5) Maintain or supervise the maintenance of all official and important documents of the FSMTA.
6) Submit quarterly reports to the Board, and annual reports at the FSMTA Annual Business Meeting.

General Information About the State Treasurer Position:
1) Be custodian or the supervisor of FSMTA funds, except Chapter funds, oversee the proper disbursement and deposit of funds.
2) Be custodian or the supervisor of all tangible property of FSMTA.
3) Be custodian or oversee all accounting records representing funds received and disbursed.
4) Develop and institute accounting policies as approved by the Executive Finance Committee.
5) Provide assistance to the Central Office and all Chapter Treasurers regarding accounting policies.
6) Submit quarterly reports to the Board, and annual reports at the FSMTA Annual Business Meeting.
